Open Access Children’s Service
Young children and all those in full-time education, aged 16 years or under can be seen by a GP on the same day by attending between 12 and 12.30pm any day, Monday to Friday inclusive.
Home visiting & Telephone Access
We have a designated doctor available each day to visit housebound patients, and ensure they have appropriate care. If you require a visit the same day please try to contact the surgery before 10am so that you can be seen promptly.
We offer telephone consulting where appropriate. If you would like to speak to a GP or nurse please leave a message and brief details with our reception staff and the doctor/nurse will return your call as soon as they can.
Specialist Clinics
Our nurses run clinics for diabetes and chest problems (asthma, chronic airway problems). Our GP’s also offer on-site Minor Surgery and contraceptive / sexual health advice, including Chlamydia screening, coil and Implanon fitting and removal. We also provide health screening, immunisations, travel advice and vaccination, as well as a Stop Smoking clinic. We have recently run Saturday HPV clinics to girls under 18.
Our health care assistants (HCA) work closely with the nurses providing appointments for blood tests, new patient health checks, BP readings and home-loan of BP machines.
Contraceptive Services
Both Dr’s Baron and Briggs offer contraceptive services at the practice. Our nurses are also trained in this area and can offer extensive advice on options. Both doctors offer coil fittings and in addition, we offer Implanon fitting and removal to our patients.
We also offer sexual health screening and are involved with the RU Clear Chlamydia screening programme http://www.ruclear.co.uk/. Please feel free to book in to discuss any issues further. Further information about family planning methods is available at http://www.fpa.org.uk/
Cervical Smears
You will receive invites to attend for cervical smears from the age of 25 every 3-5 years until you reach aged 65 years. We actively encourage all female patients to attend for screening - it’s never as bad as you think it will be!
If you are unsure about whether to attend, we would urge to book an appointment with the doctor so that we can work through your concerns together. More information can be obtained at http://cancerscreening.nhs.uk/cervical/publications/in-04.html
Maternity & Childcare
Our maternity patients are cared for by our midwife, Kathryn Wright, who works as part of Stepping Hill Foundation Trust. She offers antenatal clinics on a Tuesday morning. We also have a Health Visitor, Rosie Crawford who helps us to provide a family-orientated service.
If you have found out you are pregnant please make an appointment to see a GP who can help you arrange your antenatal care. All pregnant women are advised to take folic acid 400mcg until they are 12 weeks pregnant. This can be purchased at any chemist.
Post Natal Checks & Child Health Surveillance
If you have recently had a baby we provide an 8-week check for you and your baby. This is usually co-ordinated with the recommended immunisations. We continue to offer child care through or daily childrens’ surgery and in coordination with our local health visitor.
Child Immunisation Clinics
We run Friday morning clinics for childhood immunisations. We are keen to ensure that all of our patients, small and big, are protected from easily preventable diseases such as measles. We do understand parent concerns in these areas and appreciate that you may wish to discuss this further.
Please make an appointment with one of the doctors if you would like to discuss immunisations further or alternatively make an appointment with either of the nurses for immunisations for your children, or to find out what they need.
Influenza & Pneumonia
We offer a special Saturday clinic in late September or early October for influenza vaccination. We strongly recommend all patients over 65 to have a flu vaccine. In addition if you suffer from certain chronic conditions, including diabetes, heart disease, asthma or other lung problems.
You may also be offered a Pneumonia immunisation if you are over 65 or have certain other conditions. This is usually only needed once in a lifetime. Please feel free to contact us to find out whether it is appropriate for you.
Repeat Prescriptions
Please visit our repeat prescriptions page where you can get information on online prescribing as well as standard ways to order your repeat prescriptions.
Minor Surgery
We offer a minor surgery service at the practice, run by Dr Briggs. We offer removal of moles, cysts, etc as well as joint injections.
Please book an appointment with Dr Briggs who will arrange listing for the procedure.
Sickness Certification
If you are off work due to illness for less than 5 working days you need to obtain a SC2 from your employer. If you are still unable to work after this time then you will need to see a doctor who will issue a sick note if this is necessary.
If your employer requests a sick note before 5 days of sick leave, we can issue a private certificate for for a small charge which you can ask your employer to fund.
Private Services & Medical Examinations
Some certificates and examinations are not covered by the National Health Service. These services are charged in line with guidance from the British Medical Association. These include private medical insurance reports/claims, holiday insurance cancellation certification, private sick notes, private medical examinations and letters for private purposes.
